Minimum Qualifications:

  • Some administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some experience working in a community college setting.
  • Significant Experience with maintaining instruments and labs.

 

Skills Required:

  • Basic knowledge of the music discipline is required.
  • Ability to work with faculty and students.
  • Excellent customer service attitude and strong communication skills.
  • Friendly, helpful attitude, and reliable.
  • Shows a willingness to learn and an ability to problem solve.
  • Willing to work days, afternoons, and evenings, as needed – Monday thru Saturday.

 

 Responsibilities:
Assist the Associate Dean and music faculty in
  1. Monitoring and managing applied music sound booths and student schedules,
  2. Helping students during open lab hours,
  3. Assist in advertising and coordinating recitals and music juries,
  4. Coordinate instrument tuning and music discipline purchases, and
  5. Exhibit positive attitude and provide general administrative support as needed.
Duties:
  • Monitor sound booths and equipment as needed,
  • keep regular inventory of supplies,
  • maintain a clean and orderly environment,
  • and be present when students use sound booths.
  • Coordinate instrument tuning and music discipline purchases.
  • Direct questions to the Associate Dean, Faculty, and LASS Division Office Manager as necessary.
  • Perform various administrative & organizational duties in support of the Associate Dean and LASS Division Office Manager, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
  • Manage music instruments and sound booths.

Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act; therefore, they are not eligible for the benefits which are provided to salaried employees, such as leave credits, holiday pay, health and life insurance, access to the grievance procedure, etc.

2.) Wage employees are paid only for the hours they work.

3.) Wage employees may not work beyond 1,500 hours (29 hours weekly) in a 365-day period. (The 365-day period is considered the employee’s “work year” and begins on the first day of May every year.)

4.) Wage employees are eligible and encouraged to apply for classified positions when/if they become available.
