Job Description
Working in our state of the art service departments, the Service Advisor acts as the go-between for Service Technicians and customers. In this position, you’ll be able to get out from behind the desk and play an active role in the service lane. AutoNation will look to you to explain the Service Technician’s recommendations to the customer in easy-to-understand language – and suggest up-sell opportunities to keep the customer’s vehicle safe.
What Will I Do Every Day?
- Set, confirm and prepare for appointments with customers so they can have a great service experience
- Meet or exceed targeted sales goals & the targeted customer satisfaction index
- Greet customers in a friendly manner when they arrive
- Determine vehicle needs based on customer information and a vehicle walk-around, inspections and test drives
- Use a consultative selling process to assist customers in planning for ongoing required maintenance of their vehicle
- Produce repair orders for customers, including cost and time estimates, with full transparency
- Communicate frequently with technicians and parts associates to ensure timely completion of work
- Follow up with customers on the status of their vehicle, based on how the customer wants to be informed
- Follow up with customers to ensure satisfaction
- Gain superior product knowledge to effectively help customers
- Provide an exceptional customer experience to drive loyalty

- Inspect every service repair order and/or parts invoice for proper completion and accuracy
- Reconcile the repair orders by transferring the appropriate information from each repair order hard copy to the soft copies

- Collect the total retail charges from the customer in cash, check or authorized charge account

- File repair orders as directed by the service department manager
- Answer the service department telephone, transfer calls to the people requested or best suited to take the calls, and take written messages when the needed personnel are not available
- Control and turn into the business office any sublet bills associated with the repair orders
- Ensure that customer complaints are handled promptly, with genuine concern and according to dealership guidelines
- Report to management any situation or condition that jeopardizes the safety, welfare, or integrity of the dealership, it’s employees, or customers
- Perform any other administrative tasks as directed by management

What are the daily job responsibilities?
- Assessing and analyzing damaged areas and preparing them for painting, including removing rust and grease, and masking parts that are not to be painted or coated.
- Preparing the color tint to match or blend paint color.
- Painting vehicles with a high level of efficiency and quality, using a sprayer or brush as appropriate.
- Adheres to factory and dealership procedures when performing warranty work.
- Operating all equipment in the Collision Center in a safe and productive manner, following AutoNation’s Safety Standards for the use of personal protective equipment (e.g., respirator, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection) while working on the production floor.
- Inspecting quality of craftsmanship, noting any runs, sags or unpainted areas.

- Understanding and following federal, state, and local regulations that affect Collision Center operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA guidelines, etc.
- Gaining superior product knowledge to provide high quality repairs.
What are the requirements for the Paint Technician?
- ICAR certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
- OEM certification (preferred) or interest to become certified.
- At least two years’ automotive experience.
- Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license with an acceptable, safe driving record.
- Ability to operate an automobile.
